HOUMA, LA (NBC33) — A Houma man was arrested after he allegedly took police on a high speed chase. Once it was finally over, they found the man’s two young children in the backseat of the car.
According to the Houma Police Department, the incident started on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at roughly 10:00 p.m. An officer was patrolling the area when he noticed a vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway.

Officials say the suspect drove through several residential areas and went as fast as 70 mph. During the pursuit, the officer observed the suspect tossing items from the vehicle. They were later recovered and included a stolen handgun, a Halloween mask, and gloves.
The chase finally ended when the driver, Jeremy Sims, 30, of Thibodaux, crashed the vehicle near the intersection of Main and Grand Caillou Road. Officers were able to apprehend him quickly.
Sims’ 5-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter were in the backseat of the vehicle. They were reportedly unharmed.
Sims was arrested and charged with Aggravated Flight From an Officer, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Obstruction of Justice, Stop/Standing in Roadway, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile, and an additional warrant for Failure to Appear in Court.
