Man smuggles over $1M worth of heroine in, under clothing; Caught during I-10 traffic stop
LAKE CHARLES, LA. (NBC33) — During a traffic stop on Saturday, Dec. 14, a detective with the Combined Anti-Drug Task Force conducted a traffic stop on I-10 at about 4:20 p.m.
During the stop, the officer observed one of several passengers in the vehicle acting suspiciously.
A subsequent search of the vehicle and the suspicious passenger led to the discovery of 3.5 kilograms of heroin.
The estimated street value of the heroin was over $1, 000,000.00.
The passenger smuggling the drug was identified as Frank Joel Farias Rivera, 29, from Lima Peru.
Rivera concealed the heroin in multiple ways. He the drug hidden in the insoles of his shoes, packs sewn into his shorts, and packs taped to his lower legs.
River was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with possession of heroin over 400 grams with intent to distribute. His bond was set at $200K.
The other passengers were not found to be involved in the smuggling.
