Man shot in the neck: Suspect turns himself in to police

UPDATE: Devante Courtney turned himself in to police without incident. He will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for First-Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, and Illegal Use of a Dangerous Weapon.

 

UPDATE: The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that the victim of this shooting, Gregory Short, 23, died as a result of his injury.

Investigators have identified one of the two suspects who was seen fleeing the scene. They are actively searching for Devante Tremayne Courtney, 20. He was last seen in an older model mini van, either maroon or purple in color.

This is the 38th homicide investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department in 2013.
 

ORIGINAL: Police are searching for two suspects who are believed to be responsible for shooting a man in the neck.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reports that the shooting occurred shortly after 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31. We’re told the 23-year-old victim was involved in a dispute over a possible drug deal when it happened.

Officials say two black males were seen leaving the scene in a purple mini van.

The victim was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.
