Man sets fire to sixteen trash cans in Scotlandville
SCOTLANDVILLE, LA (NBC33) — A man set more than a dozen trash cans on fire in Scotlandville early this morning. Investigators say they were able to catch the man responsible in the act.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to the call at around 3:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4. When they arrived on scene, they found a total of sixteen trash cans that had been set on fire in an area near Scenic Highway. Officials tell NBC33 News that it was as if someone “walked down the street lighting one after another.”
While fire investigators were surveying the area, they spotted Raymond Gilmore, 36, in the area, as he was in the process of setting another trash can on fire. That’s when the investigators apprehended him.
Although no serious damage was done, a representative with the fire department said this could have easily turned into a more serious incident.
“It can go unnoticed, especially at that time in the morning, and it can ignite a structure as well,” Robert Combs, Baton Rouge Fire Department, explained. “That small fire can then become potentially life threatening.”
Gilmore has been charged with 16 counts of Simple Arson. Officials believe this was an isolated incident and do not suspect Gilmore to be involved with another other arson cases at this time.
