BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A tripped burglar alarm is responsible for putting one man behind bars after 16 years.
Albert Genius, 63, was issued a summons in 1997 after an undercover officer saw him and several other men involved in sex acts at the Regina Theater. Police say Genius never showed up for court, so a warrant was issued for his arrest.
When police responded to an alarm at Genius's business on Wednesday, July 4, they ran a routine ID check and found his outstanding warrant. Police say they don't see cases like this very often.
"It's pretty rare, but I mean, every once in a while,” Cpl. Tommy Stubbs, Baton Rouge Police Department, said. “I mean, warrants, they stay active until executed, and every once in a while we come across stuff like this, but it's not that often."
Genius booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for Lewd Behavior and Crimes Against Nature, which are both felonies.
