Shreveport authorities are searching for a person who is pretending to be a police officer.

At around 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, a woman driving on Gilbert Avenue between Pierremont Road and Ockley Drive was pulled over by a white, newer model Chrevrolet Impala wiht dark tinted windows and a flashing blue light in the front window.

The imposter, who is described as a white male, about six feet tall, weighing 180 pounds with salt and pepper hair and wearing what appeared to be a navy blue or dark colored uniform with no patches, markings or badges visible , got out of the car and demanded her driver's license. He then told her to step out of her vehicle, claiming she had been drinking. The woman refused and asked the man for his credentials. At that point, he got back in his vehicle and left the scene

According to the Shreveport Police Deparment polices, officers operating unmarked vehicles may make traffic stops but ONLY if they are wearing attire clearly identifying themselves as Shreveport Police officers. If an unmarked vehicle with flashing lights attempts to stop you and you are unsure if it is a legitimate police officer, begin driving to a busy, public place and immediately call 911.

Shreveport Police officers are required by policy to notify dispatchers of their location when making a traffic stop and if it is indeed an officer stopping you, the police communications officer can give you that information. If it is not, the dispatcher will stay on the line with you while patrolmen respond to your location.

Investigators are asking for anyone with any information regarding this case to call them at 318-673-6955 or Shreveport-Caddo Parish Crime Stoppers at 318-673-7373. If you think you might have been victimized by this suspect but did not report it, please let us know so that we can put this man behind bars where he belongs.
