A 29-year-old man is being held on a $186,000 bond after he allegedly broke into a man’s hotel room, threatened to kill him, then stole his cell phone and money.

The Thibodaux Police Department reports that the incident happened at roughly 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21. The victim claims that the suspect entered his room without permission.

“The victim was in the room when the suspect walked in and began to yell at him,” David Melancon, Thibodaux Police Department, said. “The victim argued with the suspect and the two began to struggle. The suspect managed to take his cell phone and money and exit out of the room.”

While police were on scene with the victim, they received another call about a disturbance happening at a nearby business.

“The suspect was seen punching a drainage pipe on the side of a building,” Melancon said. “He then walked across the street to a gas station, and that’s where officers found him.”

Officers questioned him about the incident at the hotel. They say his responses were strange.

“When asked how he got to the gas station, he said that he had driven there in a car,” Melancon said. “But when they asked where his car was, he said that the police must have taken it because he ‘doesn’t see it anymore.’”

The victim was able to positively identify the man, Charles Walker, Jr. of Schriever, as the suspect who robbed him in the hotel room. They also learned that he had outstanding warrants for his arrest.

Walker was arrested and charged with Simple Burglary, Attempted First-Degree Robbery, Simple Battery, an outstanding warrant for Aggravated Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, and an outstanding warrant for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center.
