An 18-year-old was arrested yesterday on a slew of charges, including the attempted murder of a Baton Rouge Police Officer.

According to the arrest report, the incident started on Tuesday, Aug. 27 at roughly 11:00 p.m. We’re told two officers were patrolling in the area of Airline Highway, when they noticed suspicious activity in the parking lot of a gas station.

An officer observed the suspect, Elijah Dixon, sitting in his car rolling what appeared to be a marijuana blunt. The officer approached the vehicle and saw a container sitting in the console of the vehicle. It appeared to have marijuana inside.

The officer instructed Dixon to exit his vehicle, to which he allegedly refused and turned on his vehicle. At that point the officer attempted to reach inside the vehicle to turn the car off. The second officer also reached inside the vehicle to try and get Dixon out of the car.

“While both…were leaned into the vehicle, [Dixon] placed the vehicle into reverse and accelerated rapidly,” the arrest report notes. “[One officer] was struck by the driver’s door and was able to jump away from the vehicle to avoid being dragged by the vehicle. [The second officer] was unable to get away from the vehicle due to the rapid acceleration which caused him to be pinned inside the passenger vehicle.”

The second officer was trapped on the door by his belt and was unable to break free. At one point Dixon allegedly yelled at the officer, “I’m going to kill you if you don’t get out my car!”

Dixon allegedly hit another vehicle in the parking lot, but the car kept going. However, he eventually jumped out of the vehicle while it was still moving and took off on foot.

Dixon was eventually located roughly 3 blocks away from where the incident started. He allegedly continued to resist arrest, but was finally taken into custody.

Dixon is charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder of a Police Officer, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Possession of Marijuana, and Resisting with Violence. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. His bond was set at $61,000.
