One man has been arrested for a crash in Ascension Parish that killed an 83-year-old woman.

The Louisiana State Police reports that the crash happened shortly after 11:00 p.m. on Roddy Road (LA Hwy 931). We’re told Travis R. Parent, Jr., 23, of Denham Springs, was driving in the westbound lane. Officials say he failed to yield at a stop sign and ran into a vehicle being driven by Audrey S. Wells of Gonzales.

Wells was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. However, she sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe Parent may have been distracted by a mobile device at the time of the crash. He was arrested and charged with Negligent Homicide, Reckless Operation, and Felony Disregarding of a Stop Sign.

This crash is still under investigation.
