Man charged with 48 counts of animal cruelty in Iberia Parish
NEW IBERIA, LA (NBC33) — A man in Iberia Parish was arrested for animal cruelty. That after the Sheriff’s Department received complaints about a foul odor in the area.
Deputies investigated the claim at a home on Jefferson Terrace Boulevard. We’re told that deputies observed several animals being forced to live in “atrocious circumstances.”
In all, 24 dogs and 22 pigs were being kept on the property without food or water. They also found the carcass of a pig that had died as a result of those conditions.
Tora Benoit was arrested and charged with 46 counts of Simple Animal Cruelty and 2 counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.
Animal control removed the animals from the property.
Benoit was booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.
