School officials at Tara High School called the School Drug Task Force at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning regarding a possible gun on campus.

Investigators learned that a 16-year-old, female tenth grader brought the gun to school, planning to sell it to another student.

The gun, reportedly unloaded at the time, was allegedly taken off campus by an 18-year-old eleventh grade student.

At about 2:30 in the afternoon, detectives located Compton East, the 20-year-old brother of that student in possession of the gun.

When officers tried to confront him, he tried to run one officer over with his car.

A Sheriff’s deputy blocked him with his unit, and the suspect rammed the unit with his vehicle.

East then got of the car and threw a backpack containing the unloaded gun over the fence. Police later recovered the weapon.

Officers had to taze the suspect to detain him. He was also caught with a small amount of marijuana.

Police say East will be booked with Resisting by Force and Violence, Resisting by Aggravated Flight, Aggravated Damage to Property, Attempted Aggravated Battery, Possession of Marijuana and Possession of a Firearm with a Controlled Dangerous Substance.

The investigation is ongoing, and other arrests are pending.
