Man arrested on third DWI charge after attempting to report his crashed car as 'stolen'

A Ponchatoula man has been arrested on his third DWI charge.

On July 14, 2013, at approximately 12:30 a.m., deputies responded to a single vehicle crash on Pleasant Ridge Rd. Ext. in Hammond.

Upon arrival, it was reported that the vehicle was abandoned, however was registered to Thomas Lee Jernigan, 28, of Ponchatoula.

Deputies went to Jernigan’s residence and made contact with him; he was obviously intoxicated at the time, was on the phone with 911 attempting to report that his vehicle was stolen.

After an in-depth investigation of the events that occurred in those early morning hours, it was learned that Jernigan was lying about his vehicle being stolen and was indeed driving his vehicle at the time of the crash.

This is Jernigan’s 3rd DWI offense. Jernigan was additionally charged with Driving Under a Suspended License and Careless Operation of a Vehicle.

When will people like him be put away, they are a pimple on the butt of all people, they cant or want stop drinking and causing destruction of life and property, and only think of where they will get their next drink at. he should get some real jail time this time not a slap on the hand , and loose his driv. lic. for at least 10 years with a clause if he is caught driving a go cart he spends 25 years at hard labor. its time to stop the handing down brother in law sentences in crimes
