Man arrested on drug charges during traffic stop

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA — Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the arrest of Jimmy Smith, 37, of Tickfaw, LA.
Smith was taken into custody on October 3rd, after a traffic stop lead to the discovery of illegal narcotics use.
The traffic stop occurred on HWY 190 while Smith was traveling in a red Dodge Pick-up truck. As deputy alerted for Smith to stop his vehicle, he was observed throwing several items out of the passenger side window.
Smith was then advised to exit the vehicle. The deputy was able to recover the items that were discarded by Smith. Recovered items: 1 syringe and a glass smoking pipe (typically used when smoking crack).
Subsequently, Smith was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and for driving under a suspended license.
