A 30-year-old man is behind bars tonight for allegedly cyberstalking and threatening a teen girl.

The Eunice Police Department reports that the incident occurred on May 25 when officers were dispatched to a home on West Oak Street. When they arrived the 16-year-old girl and her parents requested to file charges against Dustin Spears of Mamou.

Reports say Spears continued texting the teen for over a year. He was allegedly attempting to solicit the girl, but those messages eventually turned threatening.

The teen says the messages started to turn ugly after she informed Spears that she was dating a black male. She alleges that Spears started sending her racially motivated threats through text messages. She claims that the messages threatened both her and her boyfriend.

Spears was questioned by investigators about the alleged messages, to which he admitted sending messages to the teen. He also admitted to sending the racially motivated threats.

The cell phone evidence was reviewed by investigating officers and an arrest warrant was issued for Spears on the charge of Cyberstalking.

Spears turned himself in to the Eunice Police Department on Wednesday, June 20. His bond was set at $7,500.
