BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — A Slaughter man was arrested for Human Trafficking after he allegedly forced a teen girl and 19-year-old women into prostitution.
Jeremie “JT” Tate, 32, was arrested by deputies with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office. His involvement with the case came to light after the two females were questioned by investigators following an undercover prostitution sting.
According to the arrest report, the investigation began when deputies discovered an ad on the website Backpage. An undercover deputy arranged a “date” and met with Payton Shelton, 19, of Baker and the 16-year-old girl at roughly 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 4.
The deputy was told the cost would be $600 and the two girls would perform various sexual favors. He was told an additional $200 would buy him an additional half-hour with both girls. The arrest report describes in explicit detail the services the girls agreed to perform, and those which were excluded.
The deputy gave Payton $800 in cash. Once the deal was made, Deputies with the EBRSO SCAT Team went to the room. Both Payton and the teen were placed under arrest.
During questioning, the teen told investigators she was being “compelled into prostitution” by Tate. She claims she has worked for him for roughly 2 or 3 days, but has a past history of working with him. However, she admitted she told him she was 17-years-old, which is the legal age for an adult in the state of Louisiana.
Payton also identified Tate as her “pimp” and claims she has worked for Tate for the past 2 months. She also noted that she has worked for Tate in the past while she was living in Las Vegas, NV. Investigators verified that Tate does have an apartment in Las Vegas, NV, although his primary address is listed in Slaughter.
Over the past two months, Payton claims she was instructed to give Tate all of the money she makes from the arranged sexual encounters.
Both the teen and Payton stated that they are extremely afraid of Tate. Payton said Tate has physically assaulted her in the past when she attempted to leave.
Tate was arrested and charged with Human Trafficking and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile by Sexual Immoral Acts. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. His bond was set at $90,000.
The Louisiana State Police and the Attorney General’s Office High-Tech Crime Unit assisted with this investigation. The investigation was launched via a tip provided to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
