A New Iberia man told police that he saw two men burglarize his neighbor's home, when in fact, he was the culprit.

On September 3, 2013 Deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the 1400 Block of Oubre Lane of New Iberia in reference to a residential burglary.

As deputies arrived they spoke to an individual who stated he observed two males burglarize his neighbor’s residence. The individual stated the two suspects then fled the area and were both armed with firearms.

Deputies searched the area and did not locate and suspects involved in the burglary. However, through further investigation deputies determined the individual who had initially reported the incident was the actual suspect, Heath Bonin, 24.

Deputies believe that Bonin attempted to deceive deputies by calling in the incident and fabricating the story of the two suspected burglars.

Bonin was charged with Simple Burglary and Criminal Mischief. He was then booked into the Iberia Parish Jail.
