The first court hearing for a man accused of cutting a baby out of his pregnant wife is schedule to occur this afternoon.

Jeffrey Michael Reynolds is charged with Attempted Second-Degree Murder, First-Degree Feticide Specific Intent to Kill and three counts of Battery of a Police Officer Resulting in Medical Attention. Reynolds was arraigned on November 21, 2012 and entered a plea of “not guilty.”

Reynolds is accused of cutting the unborn fetus from his wife on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2012. It happened at the home the couple shared in Walker. When law enforcement arrived on scene, they found the victim with her throat slashed and her abdomen cut. The fetus died at the scene, but his wife was transported to a local hospital and survived.

In the days following the incident, the fetus was accidentally cremated before the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office could conduct an autopsy.

Today’s proceedings will be held in Livingston Parish. Reynolds is being represented by a public defender. We will continue to track this story and provide updates when they are available.
