Man accused of brass knuckle bar fight additionally charged for hitting deputy

BAYOU BLUE, LA (NBC33) — A 23-year-old man is accused of beating a man with brass knuckles, then hitting a deputy.
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident happened on Saturday, July 27. The suspect, Shawn Meier, entered a bar located on Palmisano Drive in Bayou Blue, approached a man and began punching him several times.
Deputies were called to the scene, but Meier had already fled. Deputies searched the area and located him walking nearby.
When the deputy attempted to place Meier under arrest, he allegedly punched the deputy in the chest, then took off running.
Meier was later located standing outside the same bar where he was accused of punching the man. When questioned about the original attack, he allegedly told investigators that the man made advances on his girlfriend.
Meier was arrested and charged with Aggravated Second-Degree Battery, Battery of a Police Officer, and Resisting an Officer. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Prison. He is additionally charged with a parole violation. His bond was set at $27,500 bond.
