CROWLEY, LA — Crowley Police have added the charge of a Hate Crime to a Crowley man who was arrested earlier for Second Degree Battery of an off duty Crowley Police officer.
Brett Leverette, 26, of Crowley was arrested after he struck the off duty officer during an incident that occured on August. 26, 2012.
“There was no motive behind the attack other than the fact that Leverette knew that the victim was an off duty officer who had previously arrested him for a criminal matter” stated Chief K.P. Gibson. “If there had been an altercation or incident between the two during the evening, then the Hate Crime charge would not have applied.”
Records indicate that Leverette approached the victim and struck him as he was not looking. Once the victim was left defenseless, Leverette continued to strike the victim repeatedly causing serious damage to the victim’s facial area.
Leverette was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail.
