Two days after being arrested for a fatal hit-and-run crash, Livingston Parish School Board President Malcolm Sibley is saying he's sorry.

"[He is] Very upset, very remorseful. I mean, we read these kinds of things in the paper and we get upset for the families we read about. And after being in the situation he's in, he's very sorry for the victim, for the victim's family, and again is dealing with his family as well," said Sherman Mack, attorney for Sibley.

It is still unclear if Sibley will keep his job on the school board, and calls to multiple school board members for answers weren't returned.

Livingston Parish Schools Superintendent John Watson says he cannot comment on Sibley's standing on the board but did say, "Our prayers are with both families at this time." He also ensured NBC33 that Sibley’s arrest has not hindered any of the day to day business with the school system.

Mack said, right now, Sibley’s job as school board president is one of the last things he is worried about.

"Politics, or you know, his role on the school board, today, is not what's forefront in his mind. It’s the victim, their family, the hurt and the remorse that I am sure both families have," said Mack.

Tips from people in the community lead police to arrest Sibley Sunday Morning in connection with the hit-and-run.

Sibley ran from the scene of a vehicular murder he committed and did not turn himself in, figuring he wouldn't be suspected. I'm sure Sibley is sorry ..............that he got caught.
