Lake Charles police arrested a 33-year-old Baton Rouge man, Kirkland Montrell Pelichet, for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

On Tuesday, Feb. 4, around 10:50 p.m., officers stopped Pelichet on Interstate 10 eastbound for “defective equipment.”

Pelichet, identified by his driver’s license, told police that he was driving from Houston to Baton Rouge.

According to a police report, the officer conducting the stop asked for permission to search the vehicle after noticing that Pelichet was acting suspiciously.

Searching the vehicle, the officer found a blue plastic tote in the truck bed. Inside the tote were seven bundles of marijuana totaling 36.5 pounds with an estimated street value of $40,000.

Pelichet was booked into the Calcasieu correctional center.
