Lake Charles man chases burglar who stole his gun

Lake Charles Police have arrested two men in connection with several burglaries after one victim caught them in the act on Wednesday at about 10:00 p.m.

According to reports, the victim confronted two suspects that he witnessed burglarizing his vehicle.

One suspect took the victim’s handgun out of the vehicle and ran.

The victim chased the suspects until officers arrived and apprehended them.

Police searched the area and found two backpacks belonging to the suspects. One backpack had the victim’s handgun in it.

A subsequent investigation revealed that the two men burglarized at least four unlocked vehicles and hid the stolen property in various locations with the intent to return for them later.

According to police, the suspects were trying to burglarize as many vehicles as possible.

The two suspects were identified as Trenton Montgomery Howard, 21, and Xavier Levi Johnwwell, 20, both of Lake Charles.

They were booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on four counts of burglary and theft and are still awaiting bond.
