Lafayette Police make arrest in overnight shooting

LAFAYETTE, LA — On May 17, 2012, at approximately 3:00 a.m., Lafayette Police responded to a shooting in the 200 block of High Meadows Blvd. When officers arrived they discovered that a disturbance occurred in an apartment and turned physical.
One of the suspects allegedly produced a handgun and the victim began to run from the scene. As the victim was attempting to getaway, the suspect fired multiple shots at the victim. The victim was not injured during the incident. The suspect, Deshawn Montgomery, 25, of Lafayette, was later arrested by detectives and charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder.
During the course of the investigation, investigators were able to obtain information linking Montgomery to an armed robbery that occurred at the Shell Convenience Store on May 7, 2012, located at 2444 West Congress Street. Montgomery is alleged to have entered the store armed with a handgun and robbed the clerk of an undisclosed amount of cash. Additionally, Montgomery was charged with Armed Robbery.
Both cases remain under investigation.
