Lafayette man robbed under his own carport, shot in stomach

The victim of a Lafayette robbery was shot, sending him to the hospital.

At approximately 7:40 a.m. this morning, Lafayette Police responded to the 100 block of Tennessee regarding an armed robbery.

According to the 55-year-old male victim, he was confronted by two male suspects as he exited his home beneath the carport.

The two suspects demanded money from the victim, at which time the victim shoved his two children back into the residence.

When the victim turned towards the suspects again, one of the suspects shot the victim once in the stomach with a handgun.

The suspects were last seen fleeing on foot towards Louisiana Avenue.

The victim was transported to an area hospital and is listed in guarded condition.

The two suspects are described as black males with one of the suspects wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and the second wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt. Police have received information that there were three black males standing near the intersection of Center and Tennessee Street prior to the robbery.
