LAFAYETTE, LA (NBC33) — A Lafayette man died yesterday after he was stabbed in the ribcage during an argument at a barber shop.

The Lafayette Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Thursday, Nov. 1 at roughly 8:00 p.m. on the 1100 block of 12th Street. Witnesses told officers that two men began fighting, and one pulled out a sharp object and stabbed the other.

The suspect managed to get away before police arrived.

The victim, Damien Watkins, 28, of Lafayette, was transported to a local hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
