Jealous father breaks into home of ex-girlfriend, arrested for simple battery

A father and an accomplice are behind bars for allegedly breaking into the home of his ex-girlfriend. He’s accused of beating her and causing a second victim to fall down a flight of stairs.

The Thibodaux Police Department reports that the incident occurred on Saturday, Nov. 3 shortly before 5:00 a.m. The victim claimed that, Bryant Coler, 22, the father of her two children, broke into her home and beat her. A second female victim at the home claims that Color and his accomplice, Joshua Cheatham, 25, caused her to fall down the stairs as they were attempting to flee the home.

“Coler, after being questioned, claimed that earlier in the evening he saw the mother of his children speaking with another man,” David Melancon, Thibodaux Police Department, explained. “He said that he became suspicious and admitted that he went to her house with Cheatham. He said he knocked on the door, but when no one answered he broke a window and forced his way into the home.”

Coler and Cheatham were spotted by officers at shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5 walking with a large crowd into a bar. They were both detained and questioned.

Coler had a laceration on his arm at the time of his arrest. He admitted that he sustained the wound when he broke the window.

Both Coler and Cheatham were arrested and charged with one count of Home Invasion and two counts of Simple Battery.

Both victims sustained minor injuries during the incident and are expected to recover. Neither of the children were home at the time of the incident.
