LAFAYETTE, LA (NBC33) — A man had his throat slashed after he says he offered to give an intoxicated man a ride home.
The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported stabbing in the 300 block of Sapphire Street in Lafayette just after midnight on Wednesday, March 7. When they arrived, they found Marc Manzo, 26, with a cut approximately 10 inches long to his throat/neck area.
Investigators believe that Manzo encountered an intoxicated man near Willow Street and the Evangeline Thruway. They say Manzo offered to give the man a ride home. When they arrived at the intoxicated man’s home on Sapphire Street, Manzo attempted to help the man out of his car and into his home. That’s when they believe the altercation happened.
We're told the victim is being treated in a local hospital.
Deputies located the suspect, Gentry J. Richard, 23, in his home. When they approached him, deputies say Richard became hostile. They managed to restrain him and place him into custody.
Richard was booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center. No bond has been set at this time.
