Illegally parked vehicle leads deputies to drug arrests

On Tuesday, May 27, deputies were patrolling the Bishop Woods area in Prairieville when they noticed an illegally parked vehicle in front of a residence on Josh Brown Road.

Officers located four people standing near the vehicle in the roadway. When deputies began to ask questions, Desmond Dunbar fled into the nearby residence. Police pursued him and surrounded the home.

Dunbar was seen running to the rear of the home and throwing money and drugs out the back door, then returning to the front door.

Narcotics Detectives arrived on scene to assist deputies. After searching the residence, detectives found more cocaine. They also found close to $1,000 in cash in the home and in another vehicle that was parked in the yard.

The street value of the cocaine seized is estimated at about $7,000.

Desmond Dunbar, 36, of Gonzales was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

Chitoka Jackson, 41, of Gonzales was arrested on an active bench warrant. Jackson was present at the residence when deputies searched the home.

Naikesha James, 39, of Gonzales was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

All were booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.

Dunbar remains incarcerated where his bond has been set at $30,000. James was released on a $10,000 bond on May 28. Jackson was also released on May 28 with no bond issued.
