Illegal gambling and bookmaking operation uncovered in Washington Parish

WASHINGTON PARISH, LA — Members of the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations Gaming Enforcement Division and High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) task force arrested seven individuals involved in a bookmaking ring in Washington Parish on October 24.
In March 2013, LSP detectives received information from the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office related to an illegal gambling ring.
Through investigative techniques, detectives were able to gather information that led to arrest warrants for Lee Henry, 64, and Larry Blackwell, 68, both of Bogalusa, for charges of Illegal Gambling.
In addition, search warrants were executed at both men's residences in Bogalusa. Detectives recovered approximately $10,000 cash, bookmaking paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana.
Five additional arrests were made after executing the warrants and all subjects were booked into the Washington Parish Jail:

Ronald Peters, 47 - Conspiracy to Commit Illegal Gambling
Melvin Fields, 57 - Conspiracy to Commit Illegal Gambling
Willie D. Roberts Jr., 20 - Possession of Marijuana (2nd Offense)
Lacourte J. Cooley, 24 - Simple Possession of Marijuana
