Iberia mother arrested for death of her infant child
IBERIA PARISH, LA (NBC33) — A woman from Iberia Parish was arrested and charged with Second-Degree murder following an investigation into the death of her 2-month-old child.
The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office reports that the investigation began on June 30 after the infant was brought to a local hospital with a head injury. The boy died at the hospital and medical staff suspected foul play.
An investigation was launched and investigators now believe the child’s mother, Shana Bayard, 28, was responsible for the infant’s death. However, they did not release any information indicating how the injury was sustained.
Deputies arrested Bayard on Aug. 24 and charged her with Second-Degree murder. She is being held in the Iberia Parish Jail on a bond on $300,000.
