Terrebone Parish, La — The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office arrested a Bayou Blue man for criminal assistance to suicide, Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said.
Charles Fanguy, 69, was arrested Wednesday without incident by TPSO detectives after an arrest warrant was obtained charging Fanguy with assisting his now deceased wife with ending her life.
On May 17, TPSO and medical personnel responded to Fanguy's residence that he shared with his wife, Betty Fanguy. Betty was reportedly found by Charles unresponsive on the kitchen floor. Medical personnel were unable to revive Betty and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Information obtained by detectives revealed that Betty had several medical issues and had shown suicidal tendencies. Evidence found at the scene showed that Betty had consumed alcoholic beverages and prescription pills. Those factors reportedly contributed to her death.
Information was reported to detectives in June that Charles had confessed to several acquaintances to assisting Betty with ending her life by giving her prescription pills and a non-alcoholic beverage to help her swallow the pills after finding her injured from a fall inside their residence.
He was transported to the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex. His bond was set at $200,000.
