A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of a Houma man on drug charges.

On March 20, shortly before midnight, Houma Police were patrolling the area of Daniel Turner Trailer Court when a dark colored sedan was observed traveling on eastbound East Street without its license plate illuminated.

A traffic stop was conducted; Houma Police identified the driver as Keilon D. Howard, 20.

As the officer spoke to Howard, he was seen messing with something in the back seat of the vehicle. The officer also detected a strong smell of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.

With that in mind, a search of the vehicle was conducted by a Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office K-9 which resulted in several cellophane bags of marijuana being recovered, as well as approximately $1389 in cash.

Howard was arrested for No License Plate Lamp, Possession with Intent to Distribute CDS I (Marijuana), and Drug Tax Stamp Required.

Houma Police also learned that he had an outstanding warrant through 32nd Judicial District Court for Failure to Appear resulting from the original charges of speeding and No Driver’s License.
