EL PASO, TX (KTSM) — A pedestrian at an El Paso port of entry admitted to concealing heroin within his body after questioning by CBP officers.
The seizure, made Monday at Paso Del Norte, was made after drug-sniffing dog, "Malone" alerted agents to the pedestrian. During a secondary exam, Paulo Alfredo Macias, 35, confessed to holding just under five ounces of heroin and removed the pellet from his internal cavity.
“Internal body carriers are not common at land border ports of entry so this is a significant seizure,” said CBP El Paso Port Director Hector Mancha. “Heroin is a valuable commodity to drug smuggling groups so seizing almost 5 ounces is a sizable loss for the people involved in this failed attempt.”
CBP officers took Macias into custody and turned him over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement HSI special agents for arrest.
