Hammond woman accused of manslaughter
HAMMOND, La — Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the arrest of 38 year old Hammond resident Julia Lucas of West Service Rd. Lucas was arrested and booked on one count of Manslaughter for the death of Mr. Jackie Robinson of Loranger, LA.
May 15, 2011, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into the death of Jackie Robinson. The investigation revealed that during a heated argument between Lucas and Robinson, Lucas produced a steak knife and repeatedly began to stab Robinson. Family members immediately drove Robinson to NOMC where he later lost his life as a result of his injuries during surgery.
The suspect, Lucas, was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of Manslaughter. Further investigator revealed that after the suspect left the crime scene, she traveled to her sister’s house on W. Blackberry St. in Ponchatoula. Upon arrival, her sister Henrietta Lucas provided the suspect a change of cloths and then attempted to alter the investigation by burning the suspect’s soiled clothing. Lucas’ sister Henrietta was also arrested and charged with Obstruction of Justice.
During the on-going investigation, detectives also learned that Julia Lucas was involved in an incident prior that same day. While attempting to get the attention of individual, she sprayed Mace into his face and then left the scene. This matter is under investigation by the Hammond Police Department and a warrant was issued for her arrest.
Detectives are continuing to investigate this incident. Additional arrests and charges may be forthcoming.
