Hammond OMV employee arrested for theft, malfeasance in office
Hammond (NBC33) — A 46-year-old Hammond woman, Gezelle Buchanan, of Pine Grove, LA, was arrested for felony theft and malfeasance in office while employed at the Office of Motor Vehicles in Hammand.
Buchanan was responsible for collecting fees from customers in order to clear insurance flags from their records.
An audit revealed that for nearly two years, Buchanan manipulated the computer database to show that payments had been made, but actually kept the money for herself. The stolen money totaled over $15,000.
Buchanan was arrested on Tuesday, July 8, and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Prison.
