UPDATE 6-12-14: Some of what the preliminary investigations revealed is that forced entry did occur into the residence and that the suspect fired at least 2 rounds from his handgun, killing the victim.

Detectives also recovered an undisclosed amount of illegal drugs inside of the residence.

Due to this information and additional evidence collected from the scene, detectives are identifying several different angles for motive. One of these angles strongly suggests that this case is a narcotics related incident relative to suspicious drug activity.

ORIGINAL 6-9-14: Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards is asking for the public’s assistance in gathering information regarding a murder that happened around 12:30 a.m. Monday morning on Bailey Dr. in Hammond.

Homeowner’s of the Bailey Dr. residence were awakened by the sound of someone kicking in their back door.

Within moments the homeowner, 30-year-old Brandon Simms, exchanged gunfire with the intruder, resulting in Simms’s death.

After the attack, the alleged suspect(s) fled the residence in an unknown direction.

The only information detectives have at this time regarding the alleged suspect is that he is an unknown black male.
