Following an extensive investigation into the fatal hit and run crash that took the life of a Hammond bicyclist, Troopers have arrested Michael Murtagh, 51, of Hammond, on charges of Negligent Homicide and Hit-and-Run Driving.

The investigation revealed that Murtagh was driving northbound on LA 445 in his 2004 Saturn sedan when he impacted the bicyclist resulting in fatal injuries.

Murtagh’s arrest took place following the discovery of the suspect vehicle by an alert off duty Trooper and the subsequent examination of physical evidence conducted by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
