A woman has been jailed for multiple charges, including drug charges in St. Mary Parish.

While patrolling the Amelia area, a deputy saw a vehicle fail to use a turn signal and conducted a traffic stop on Joseph Street on Chantel D Ruffin, 23.

The deputy smelled the strong odor of burning marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The deputy received consent to search Ruffin's vehicle, purse, and personnel belongings. During the search, the deputy located multiple bags of marijuana as well as marijuana hidden in a soda can and in a fast food wrapper.

Other items located during the search include clear plastic bags, grinders, a digital scale, a firearm, and just over $1000 in cash (U.S. Currency).

A minor was also in the vehicle at the time of the stop. The child was placed in the care of a guardian.

Ruffin was charged with possession of Schedule I (marijuana) with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in the presence of a CDS, possession of a CDS in the presence of a minor, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
