Funeral arrangements set for murdered Vermilion Parish Sheriff Deputy
VERMILION PARISH (NBC33) — Funeral Services are set for Vermilion Parish Sheriff Deputy Allen M. Bares, Jr., who was killed Monday afternoon south of Abbeville in Vermilion Parish.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville, LA. Visitation will begin on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at 11:00 AM and run until 9:00 PM. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM on Thursday night. On Friday, Jund 27, 2014, Vincent Funeral Home will reopen for vistation from 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville, LA, at 1:30 PM. Bares will be buried after the Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery in Erath, LA. Deputy Bares served in law enforcement for 15 years, and he is survived by his wife and two children.
Deputy Bares was off duty, cutting grass, when he called 911 to report suspicious activity around 4:00 PM on Monday, June 23, 2014. When investigators arrived, they found Bares shot several times. He was rushed to Abbeville General Hospital to be treated for his injuries, but he did not survive.
Investigators arrested two men in connection with Bares's death. Quintylan Richard, 20, is accused of shooting Bares. Richard is facing First Degree Murder, Unauthorized Use of a Moveable, and Simple Burglary charges. Richard was arrested at an apartment complex in Kaplan, LA.
Investigators also arrested Baylon Taylor, 19, in Abbeville, LA. Taylor is facing a First Degree Murder charge. Taylor is accused of being on the scene when Richard allegedly shot Bares. Multiple law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation, and additional charges could be filed.
