HOUMA, LA (NBC33) — A vehicle with a freezer strapped to its trunk was the cause of a police chase through the streets of Houma early Tuesday morning. Once police caught the suspect, they learned he had allegedly stolen the massive item from a construction site.
The Houma Police Department reports that the incident occurred shortly before 1:00 a.m. An officer observed the suspect strapping the freezer to his vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop. However, the vehicle kept going.
Officials say the suspect, Steve Jackson, 44, eventually stopped his vehicle near his home on Grinage Street. Once he exited the vehicle, however, he took off running on foot.
Jackson was apprehended shortly thereafter. Detectives believe Jackson stole the freezer from a building that is currently under construction. They say he had items on his person that would have assisted with the burglary.
Jackson was arrested and charged with one count of Simple Burglary, one count of Aggravated Flight from an Officer, one count of Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, one count Resisting by Flight and one count of Possession of Burglary Tools.
