Four men have been indicted by a St. Charles Parish grand jury in connection with the January shooting death of a St. Rose man, according to Attorney General Buddy Caldwell.

In the 12-count indictment, Ramon Vinnett, 21, of Boutte; Janario Dewey, 23, of St. Rose; Calvin Avery, 19, of New Orleans; and Joshua Avery, 24, of New Orleans; are each accused of First-Degree Murder, Attempted First-Degree Murder, and Conspiracy to Commit Second-Degree Murder.

Caldwell said 18-year-old Michael McCray and his friend Leslie Reed were parked on Mockingbird Lane in St. Rose on January 11 when gunfire rang out, killing McCray. Reed was not injured.

Each man is charged with one count of first degree murder of Michael McCray, one count of attempted first degree murder of Leslie Reed, and one count of conspiracy to commit second degree murder of Leslie Reed.

The Louisiana Attorney General’s Office is prosecuting the case at the request of St. Charles Parish District Attorney Joel T. Chaisson, who recused his office from the case. The case has been assigned to Judge M. Lauren Lemmon of the 29th Judicial District Court. The arraignment is set for April 18.
