New Orleans police officers arrested a gunman and three of his suspected accomplices early this morning after he pulled off an armed robbery in the French Quarter.

At midnight, the victims were trying to hail a cab at the corner of Dauphine and Ursulines when a man stopped to ask them for directions. Soon, a second man approached Joshua Turner, 21, who pointed a silver semi-automatic handgun at the victims and demanded the group “give him everything they had.” The suspects were able to get one of the victim’s wallets. Then the gunman pointed his weapon at the victims as he and the other man got into a silver vehicle and took off.

One of the victims made note of the vehicle’s license plate number, and gave it to police. Within minutes, Sergeant Pete Bowen, who was patrolling the area, spotted the car on Decatur Street. Sgt. Bowen was headed downtown when he noticed the silver vehicle going in the opposite direction, and made a quick U-turn. He coordinated making the stop with other police units via radio, and the silver car pulled over without incident.

Four men were in the car, and officers quickly located the handgun used in the robbery, as well as a second firearm in the car. All four men are Baton Rouge residents.

The following arrests were made:

Joshua Turner, 21, was identified as the gunman and was charged with one count of Armed Robbery and two counts of Attempted Armed Robbery. Previously he had been booked in Baton Rouge with Convicted Felon in Possession of a Firearm in control of a dangerous substance.

Marcus Fontenot, 18, was booked with Principal to an Armed Robbery.

Alexis Lunas, 23, was booked with Principal to an Armed Robbery. Lunas had previously been arrested for Illegal carrying a Weapon, Hit and Run driving as well as drug charges in Baton Rouge.

Corinthian Robertson, 22, was also booked with Principal to an Armed Robbery. Robertson had previously been arrested for Possession of Marijuana as well as traffic violations in Baton Rouge.

“Over the last couple of days, our officers have taken multiple guns off the streets of the French Quarter. Their responses have been agile and on-target, and we’re seeing top-notch work from members of this Department”, said Superintendent Ronal Serpas. “It’s also encouraging to see the public continuing to believe in its police force, and calling us to report crime when it happens. When residents work with us, we make arrests, and we are making a difference.”
