Four people were booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on charges relating to theft of fuel from the town of Independence, according to our news partners at Tangelina.com.

Among these arrests is town maintenance supervisor John Henson.

On April 2, John Henson, Reginald Jefferson. Jerome Cook and Charles Garafola were all charged with Unauthorized Use of an Access Card. Henson was also charged with Theft over $300 and less than $500.

Independence Police Chief Frank Edwards III stated, “There’s a rumor that we arrested them without warrants. We have warrants signed by the judge. They surrendered at the jail. We arranged for them to meet us there for our convenience and theirs. There was no need to make four trips.”

“We have been criticized for waiting in this investigation” said Edwards. “They weren’t a danger to anyone. We arranged for them to turn themselves in. They don’t have the cards.”
