Baton Rouge, La (NBC33) — An alleged gun sale gone wrong has landed a former law enforcement officer on the opposite side of the law.
After an employee at an Academy Sports in Baton Rouge refused to sell him a gun, former state trooper Stephen Baum, 59, allegedly lost his cool.
Right now it's unclear why he was turned down, but after he was denied, NBC33 was told Baum became verbally abusive.
According to the incident report, an off-duty Baton Rouge police officer tried to diffuse the situation, but that only made Baum move aggressively towards the officer.
The 25-year veteran state trooper also did not comply when the officer attempted to handcuff him.
Baum was eventually booked into the EBR Parish Prison early Monday morning.
Baum is charged with Disturbing the Peace, Resisting an Officer and Public Intimidation.
