Port Allen, La (NBC33) — Former Port Allen mayor Derek Lewis learned how long he'll stay in jail earlier today.
Lewis was sentenced to 40 months in federal prison for his role in Operation: Blighted Officials.
Lewis was convicted of accepting bribes while in office during a sting operation a few years back.
Since Lewis cooperated with prosecutors and pled guilty, he received a lighter sentence than others who were convicted by a jury. Former St. Gabriel Mayor George Grace will be sentenced in August for his role in the sting.
