Former 14th Judicial District Court Judge Gregory Lyons has pleaded guilty to felony theft.

Lyons, 62, pleaded guilty to two counts of felony theft on Friday. State District Court Judge Clayton Davis sentenced Lyons to five years probation, but ordered him to repay $192,229.91 in restitution to his victims.

A portion of that money, $51,500, is to reimburse the Louisiana Client Assistance Fund, which had made payments to some of the victims. Lyons was also ordered to attend Gamblers Anonymous meetings and be evaluated for possible treatment.

The charges against Lyons originated from allegations that he was stealing from clients who paid him for legal representation after he retired from the bench. Lyons admitted that he would quote his clients a legal fee and then take the money without providing representation.
