Former EBRSO employee arrested for theft of supplies while on duty
BATON ROUGE, LA — A former employee with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office was arrested this afternoon for Felony Theft and Malfeisance in Office.
Floyd Demars, 55, of Denham Springs was employed with the Sheriff’s Office for the past 29 years and was serving on the maintenance crew. He has also worked at the prison and in transportation. He was terminated from the Sheriff’s Office prior to being booked into prison.
According to reports, Demars allegely took 66 sheets of 4"x8" luaon (a type of board used for flooring) from EBRSO while on duty. A supervisor noticed numerous pieces of the board missing from the substation on Jackson Road yesterday. When he confronted Demars, he admitted to taking approximately 10 pieces. Detectives went to Demars' home and found 66 sheets of luaon. Demars was booked into parish prison on the above charges.
