A former CATS board member was arrested for theft after he allegedly used money to pay for his personal bills.

"I'm glad the investigation is concluded and the authorities pressed charges based on the information provided by CATS,” Bob Mirabito, CEO of the Capital Area Transit System, said. “It is now in the hands of the judicial system."

Montrell Henderson McCaleb, 29, was arrested on Thursday, Sept. 12 by deputies with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office. He is charged with Theft and Access Device Fraud.

According to the arrest report, McCaleb is accused of using more than $1,000 from the CATS payroll to pay for his cell phone bill and television bill.

The report notes that McCaleb was an active board member for CATS when the transactions were made. The last payment was made in May 2013. McCaleb resigned from the board in July due to health reasons.

McCaleb was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He was released after he posted a $6,500 bond.
