UPDATE: The boyfriend believed responsible for the shootings has been identified as Benny Johnson, 27. The victim's name has not been released. She is 31-years-old.

ORIGINAL STORY: A father discovered his daughter shot in the head at her home in Baton Rouge. The man believed to responsible is her boyfriend. He was lying next to her with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Baton Rouge Police Department was called to the home on Tuscarora Street at roughly 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29. When they arrived they found the couple lying in the master bedroom of the home. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, but the woman was clinging to life. She was transported to a local hospital where she is listed in critical condition.

Officials tell us the couple was discovered after the young woman’s father stopped by the home for a random visit. When no one answered, he became worried and kicked down the back door to gain entry. That’s when he found the two.

Police are unsure of how long the incident occurred before the father arrived.

This is the second murder/suicide case within less than 24 hours here in Baton Rouge.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
