BATON ROUGE,LA (NBC33) — "I can't tell you how I feel or don't feel. I don't know what I feel anymore," says Alex Asmar.
Alex Asmar was Zaharn Abuawwad's cousin. Abuawwad was just twenty-one years old. when he was shot and killed during a robbery at theTire Discount store Tuesday night. According to family members the robber gunned Abuawwad down with three bullets to the chest or stomach and took cash from the register before taking off.
"Very devastated, never expected anything to happen like this," says Asmar.
Asmar, along with family members and friends came back to the store Wednesday still visibly shaken by a tragedy that left them without a man they say had a great smile and so much more left to give.
"His uncles, his cousins, his famil they're devastated. They can't beleive it till right now. They can't believe what happened. They can't believe that it happened to him," says Asmar.
The Baton Rouge Police Department is still looking for the person or people responsible for murdering Abuawaad. They say there are certain precautions business owners should take to lessen the chances anyone inside could be the next victim.
"If you think your business is being cased by a suspect. If somebody's watching your business, call the police and get it to stop. The quicker the response time we get, the better chance we have to preventing crime, catching criminals," says Asmar.
And as family members and police still look for the killer, they have a strong message for whoever's responsible.
"I understand that you think that you can get away with this, but I promise you that you won't," says Asmar.
